What is Tangerine Oil ?

Properties & Uses:
January *

Tangerine essential oil has a sweet, tangy, orange-like scent, and it also has similar properties of other orange oils. Yet, I often find myself reaching for tangerine when I want a citrus oil primarily for its fragrance, as it seems to be almost magical in its scent. The oil is extracted from the fruit peel.

Tangerine essential oil is beneficial in helping nervous tension, stress, and indigestion or other digestive problems. Also, being an antiseptic, it is useful in skincare.

It blends well with the spice oils such as clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg, as well as the citrus oils and also clary sage, black pepper, geranium, patchouli, frankincense, sandalwood, rose, palmarosa, and even jasmine or ylang-ylang. It's especially wonderful to add to those skincare and other personal items like homemade lip balm, where a delicately delicious essence is desired.

Side Effects: of Tangerine
May cause skin irritation and photo sensitivity.

Botanical Information - Rituals & History :

Tangerine trees originated in southeastern Asia but today they are produced in the United States and in tropical climates throughout the world. They have dark green foliage with shiny leaves and produce small, white, fragrant flowers. The tangerine fruit is oblate in shape rather than round as an orange, and it has a sweet, tangy taste and a powerful aroma. When ripe, the peel of the fruit has a deep orange color.
